200 Years Journey Through Thai Modern Art History at Museum Pier
19 October 2024 - 30 June 2025, 9am - 5pm everyday
“200 Years Journey Through Thai Modern Art History,” the first exhibition at the newly opened Museum Pier that will be on display until the 30th of June 2025. With eight rooms across three floors, these carefully curated pieces tell a story of Thai modern art throughout the ages, interwoven with excerpts of Thai history across seven royal regimes.
With artwork by a vast assortment of Thai artists — from anonymous creators lost to the ages as well as world-renowned Thai and international masters — this inaugural exhibition showcases the diversity and richness of the Thai artistic spirit, with pieces adhering to multiple schools of methodology including Realism, Impressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, and Postmodernism. The collection features pieces by Thawan Duchanee, Mesiem Yipintsoi, Giuseppe Turchi, Khien Yimsiri, Fua Haripithak (winner of the 1983 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service), Molly (creator of Crybaby), and countless other artists working in various mediums and styles.
The collectors, aiming to preserve and share their appreciation for Thai art with as wide an audience as possible, chose a location close to what many consider the heart of Thailand itself, Wat Phra Kaew, linking the historical works of the collection back to the spirit of the nation today.
200 Years Journey Through Thai Modern Art History is on display at Museum Pier (MRT Sanam Chai) from 9am to 5pm everyday until 30 June 2025. Entry fee: 100 THB (Thai citizens), 300 THB (visitors), 50 THB (students).
