When flowers don't care about the vase…
The exhibition presents works that combine ceramic art and flower arrangement.
5 – 28 December 2024
Unformed is a unique fusion of ceramic art and flower arranging (ikebana), in which structure and nature come together in an organic and unpredictable way. Following the first Unformed exhibition 13 years ago, this second exhibition returns to reinterpret the delicate relationship between form and letting go, inviting creative and unpredictable combinations.
Led by ceramic artist Bathma Kaew~Ngok and 19 ceramic artists/students, and florist Naomi Daimaru and 19 floral artists/students, the exhibition shifts the traditional boundaries of ceramics and ikebana. Their collaboration reflects the philosophy of “Don’t hold back in flower arranging, don’t hold back in creating ceramics,” challenging the boundaries of both arts and allowing both materials to express themselves beyond their limits.
The creative process is also full of surprises. Ceramic students create their own vessels without knowing how Ikebana students will respond to the shapes, and Ikebana florists arrange flowers in the handmade ceramics, following unusual structural shapes, creating an ever-evolving dialogue between clay and flowers, form and nature. The result is a natural fusion where the two arts take center stage, free and formless, revealing unexpected tensions, beauty and harmony.
Artists exhibiting:
• Budma Kaewnok (Ceramic Artist)
• Naomi Daimaru (florist)
Workshops and Activities: Throughout the exhibition, we invite you to participate in creative activities on your own:
• Ceramic Workshop
• Ikebana Workshop
• Christmas Workshop
In addition, ceramics students will be selling their ceramic creations, making this an excellent opportunity to purchase holiday gifts.
The heart of “Unformed”: The essence of this exhibition is the strangeness, joy and unpredictable nature of creation. Ceramic artists and ikebana artists do not know in advance how their works will react to each other, creating a shared moment of anticipation. The spontaneity of this process creates excitement, joy and collaboration in a way that allows viewers to experience the magic of the two arts coming together in a beautiful and unconventional way.
