“ไม่หนักมาก ธรรมดา” (“Not too heavy, normal”)
An exhibition narrating the simplicity of ordinary stories through threads, yarns, needlework, and various materials by artist Karuna Romthamarat, curated by Surajate Tongchua
“ไม่หนักมาก ธรรมดา" ("Not too much, normal") by Karuna Romthamarat is an art exhibition that incorporates various stories and experiences from around the artist. The stories range from the good, the bad, the mundane, to the sufferings and happiness of herself and others. Some of the stories may seem meaningless to others but they are stories of the artist's life.
The exhibition aims to showcase the creative process through repetitive techniques, imagination, and the use of different materials that the artist finds interesting. You can see through the artworks that this creative process could be a method or a path to explore and heal both the body and mind of herself effectively.
The exhibition content involves sewing, embroidering, weaving, tying, connecting, and assembling, representing physical, mental, disease-related, and challenges that the artist has faced throughout life. It also encompasses the process of acceptance and learning to create an understanding of coexistence with those things. Therefore, she changed her perspective through recording the floating memories that occurred through the creative process of sewing and embroidering into the shapes of organ parts, both external and internal, that have defects in her body. She also used various materials to convey the content she wanted to present in her artwork, aiming to communicate different perspectives. She wanted others to understand and accept what happened, including the ways of living, and choosing (embroidery) could be a process for her to start looking and feeling that suffering and problems that occurred could turn into happiness through the emergence of beauty and mindfulness when creating artworks. It is the act of dedicating time to herself, waiting for the fruits of meditative acceptance that she slowly cultivated from the pain.
