Pearl Art Space presents “ Melting Landscapes ,” a solo exhibition by Khin Zaw Latt. Inspired by his time in Chiang Mai and the sight of its landscapes, he was reminded of the natural beauty of Pindaya and Kalaw in Southern Shan State. Some of the works are based on the artist’s memories, while others are based on photographs and sketches, making them both personal and documentary.
Kin Zaw Latt’s creative philosophy is a combination of structure and spontaneity. The artist describes his creative process as:
"There are two things I understand when I am painting. The first is the importance of planning and working meticulously until I get the result I want. I sign my work only when I am satisfied. But sometimes the picture changes from what I originally intended. During the creative process, I might start with the intention of using orange, but as the colors overlap or the brush moves, the color may change to a darker color or another color, which looks more beautiful than I thought. So I just let it be natural, if it feels right."
This flexible approach is at the heart of the series. “ Melting Landscapes ” Reflecting a willingness to break away from traditional methods and expectations, the works in this series range in style from realism to abstraction. Khin Zaw Latt avoids painting landscapes that are too photogenic or too predictable. He focuses on communicating personal meaning through his works, rather than simply portraying nature as it truly is.
In the series, the artist also experiments with techniques such as dripping paint, tilting the canvas to allow the paint to flow in one direction, and drawing lines across the surface, letting the process decide when to stop, even with the risk that the work may look incomplete, creating a conflict between control and freedom. For Khin Zaw Latt, a landscape should not imitate the precision of a photograph, but rather reflect the artist's inner world, presenting the viewer with new and unexpected perspectives.
Series “ Melting Landscapes ” In which Kin Zaw Latt challenges the boundaries of landscape painting, inviting viewers to experience a powerful blend of shapes, colours and emotional expressions.
